Summer activity

What come to mind when you think of team building activities? You might think of office trivia, compliment circles, or awkward icebreakers—all traditional but well-trodden picks for team building sessions. But as innovators and leaders in the field of automation for nearly 50 years, our engineers thought we could come up with something better: Instead of writing down two truths and a lie or counting off for the three-legged race, we gathered up the team and headed downtown for an afternoon of axe throwing.

While originally more of a woodsman’s necessity in hunting or logging, axe throwing has enjoyed a resurgence in recent years as a sporting pastime. With just an axe, an instructor, and a target, you can test your skills—or relieve a little stress—at one of the countless facilities across the country. Those new to the sport may not be the most accurate, but it’s totally fine: axe throwing is more about having a good time and relaxing with your teammates.

Axe throwing isn’t as far outside our realm of expertise as you might think. After all, precision and accuracy are critical to our work as system integrators. But using an axe and servicing a robot aren’t exactly the same—at the end of the day, plenty of targets were left untouched.

Regardless of skill level, axe throwing was a great time for all our employees. While we host seasonal and recreational events for the team regularly, this had to be the most interesting yet. Impressive, considering last year’s white water rafting trip or our North Carolina mountain lodge retreat, but it does face competition from our upcoming trip to New Orleans for Mardi Gras.

Sounds like a good time? We’re always looking for engineers and technicians to join the team at Dressler Automation. Check out our option positions and submit your resume today.
